Week 9: 3/9-3/16

Peaceful
This week, I chose to do my practice around the word "peaceful", because the majority of my week, I felt this emotion strongly. With the craziness of the semester, I often never feel this emotion and I know it was primarily because of the upcoming spring break that would provide me a week free of deadlines that I would usually have. During my practice, I tried the same technique I did a few weeks ago of choosing a reference photo and using lines and outlines to try and recreate the same scene. I tried to focus on using colors that fit the picture well and this took me a lot longer because of all the different shades from the setting sun that were in the picture. I chose about 5 main colors to color the clouds. I really enjoyed creating the sky with the clouds because the shapes were up to my discretion and I didn't feel the pressure of making lines straight or redoing anything. I chose this week to use straight lines as my shape and I think it worked out well, I only wish I had used a highlighter to cover the background first and then added the lines on top. I found it easier to do this practice because there were no complex shapes or figures I decided to draw so I enjoyed it a lot.

The picture I used for reference is from a place I have found peaceful everytime I've visited - Mexico. This picture, specifically, is from a trip my family took to visit my grandma who I hadn't seen in years. The few days I got to see her one of the most peaceful moments I can ever remember. I hope to return soon to see her.

Doing my practice this week, I felt no rush and was able to really think about the emotion I wanted to talk about. I felt good both before and after my work but in doing my practice, I felt like I was checking in on myself. I was really happy that I got to find this picture from my photos and reflect on my time with my grandma as well.
