Week 7 (2/23-3/2)
For my practice this week, I decided to try and recreate a photo of my favorite park in my hometown. I only used the pen option on the drawing app of my iPad and focused on the overall placement of the objects in the picture. I think this week was much different than other pieces that I’ve done because I didn’t completely fill the spaces, instead I scribbled and tried to recreate the overall scene that the original picture has. It was also different because I have never tried to do a landscape, and I found it challenging to deal with the angles of the buildings and land towards the back of the piece. This week’s piece connects to my theme of clarity because this park is my favorite because of the peace it brings me every time I go. My mind becomes clearer and all the tension of the week prior melts away as I walk around the pond. I usually go with my parents and dog and this drawing also reminds me of them. My favorite part is when we go near sunset time, and we can watch the sky transform into beautiful shades of pinks and oranges.
Before doing the practice, I was very stressed out about an exam I have soon, but taking a bit of time to work on this helped take my mind off of it. Afterwards, I felt refreshed and ready to keep studying for the exam. This last week was rough, and I was running on very low sleep. Focusing on a place that brings me peace and a clear head has given me a little more energy to start the new week and be hopeful that my exam goes well.
